Seasonal Activities - What Can You Do While Here

Activities in the Adirondack Park and the Villages of Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Tupper Lake vary widely over the seasons, here is a summary of what you may expect.

Spring Activities

Spring can be a magic time in the Adirondacks. After a long winter of cold and snow, spring gives us a chance to enjoy all of natures re-birth. It's a great time to really see and feel nature at its best. Fishing seasons begin, the annual Lake Colby Fishing Derby takes place, as do the Ice Breaker Canoe Race and the Round-The-Mountain Canoe Race. It is a great time to visit, beat the crowds, and enjoy the great spring weather.

Summer Activities

Summer finds the Adirondacks in full swing. Guests bask by our beautiful lakeside pool. You can bring or rent a boat, and enjoy the hundreds of miles of scenic waterways surrounding Saranac Lake. We have a limited number of boat slips available at our property which you can reserve in advance. We adjoin the village lakeside park and the State of New York boat launching site. We are within easy walking distance of Saranac Lake's Riverwalk and primary shopping district.

We are within 10 miles of 108 holes of scenic golf at five different courses. We offer discount fees at the village owned Saranac Lake Golf Course. Hiking, tennis, horseback riding, World Class fishing, the Olympic venues and the Whiteface Cloud-Splitter gondola ride are just minutes away.

Summer events include Father's Day Fishing Derby, the Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe Races, Independence Day celebrations, CraftFest, water-ski tournament. art shows, the Library Fair, bridge tournaments and the Can-Am Rugby Tournament, the largest rugby tournament in North America, attracting teams from North America, and several Central and South American countries. Lake Placid always has many sporting events during the summer. These include hockey games, ski jumping into a swimming pool and the grueling Ironman Triathlon, just to mention a few. Tupper Lake hosts the annual Woodsman's Field Days and the annual Regional Flea Market. There are numerous antique shows and sales in the area, capped by the annual AMC Antique Show and Sale in Saranac Lake. Live theater, gallery walks and concert events are held regularly throughout the summer months.

Autumn Activities

Autumn is perhaps the most spectacular time of year in the Adirondacks. Saranac Lake lies among lakes, hills and mountains that are ablaze with the colors of changing leaves, set against the lush background of the evergreens and lakes and rivers. There are few places in the country where "leaf peeping" can be done with such splendid results.  Autumn attracts visitors from all over the world, so book early.

In addition to the changing foliage, autumn brings the Adirondack Canoe Classic, the Bloomingdale Fire Department Field Day, The Festival of the Lakes, The Scotch Highland Festival and Octoberfest at Whiteface Mountain, and the annual "Stars on Ice" show over Thanksgiving weekend in Lake Placid, which showcases some of the world's greatest skating talent, and is taped for later showing over network television through the holidays.

Winter Activities

Winter in the Adirondack Park and the Village of Saranac Lake abounds with recreational activities, and we are in the center of it all.  The Lake Flower Inn is within easy commuting distance, 16 miles, from Whiteface Mountain, as well as the winter sports venues surrounding Lake Placid 8 miles away. Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain have been the hosts for two Winter Olympics, the Winter Goodwill Games and many World Class winter sports events in ski jumping, downhill racing, snowboarding, hockey, luge, bobsled, skating and cross country skiing. You can even enjoy skating at the outdoor Olympic Oval speed skating venue and a bobsled ride at Mount VanHovenburg. The United States Olympic Training Center is only a few miles away. Saranac Lake also enjoys the facilities of village owned Mount Pisgah, including skiing for children and beginners, tubing and night skiing.  The village operates indoor and outdoor skating rinks all winter. This makes skating available from morning thru evening.

The Holiday Season in Saranac Lake includes "Sparkle Village" which finds the main streets and many of the homes of the village decorated with thousands of lights and other holiday garlands. We enjoy community Christmas caroling, craft festivals and much more.

Saranac Lake is the host to one of the oldest Winter Carnival celebrations in the world. For over a hundred years we have enjoyed sporting events, the spectacular Ice Palace right in our back yard, parades, fireworks, concerts and various social activities. This is a ten day celebration of winter no-one should miss. The Winter Carnival is held during the first two weeks in February.
